Jimbo's knockoff build

So I'm finally gonna upgrade to a 60g cub. IIt's pretty much going to be all knockoff equipment. Gonna see how it goes. So far I have tank stand sump and light . The light is the only thing that is not a knockoff (radion gen2) but I got the tank stand sump and light for less than the cost of the light and it was brand new sealed.. I'm waiting on the pump and powerhead from the group buy from jebao. Got at sc aquariums skimmer my wife for Christmas is not a couple days. Considering a knockoff doser from fish Street and a jebao Uv. We'lls see how it goes.....

Jimbo- Sounds like a good project, im following along.

I can attest the Jebao powerheads. I have a wp40 and it pumps out a lot of flow, comparable to my MP40 on the other side. I have a Lifeguard UV that has been offline for months cause its leaking and i can figure out where. Im about to give up on it.

If you want, I am willing to share shipping costs and get one of the jebao UV's for my self. The things i would take into consideration with that UV is that a replacement bulb is obtainable outside of Jebao. Other than that UVs are usually just a chamber with a bulb in it. Ide want to be able to replace it easily with another brand if i had to.

so the stand that came with my tank was painted black and that doesn't really work for me or the wife. Not exactly sure what we are gonna end up doing but this is our first little attempt doing a faux wood finish. never tried it before and I think we would have to go with a darker base color. We're also considered doing g a stained Butcher block top and painting the rest or painting and then adding tile back splash to the top on either side of the tank. The stand is 24*42ish and the tank a 24'' cube.

My jebao pump is working great so far. I am planning on buying the knockoff doser and skimmer if they have one. The lights are the only thing in my tank that I wanted to buy quality stuff. I went with the GHL mitras LEDs. I am just waiting for my tank to finish cycling to buy the doser and skimmer.

So I decided against trying the faux wood grain. Painted the stand brown and am probably going good with a stained wood top. I'm going to need some advice with the plumbing. My old tank had hoses from both the bulkheads and I would rather have pvc with unions this time. What's your ideal design with a single positive and single negative flow.

Anyone done a Diy hanging kit for a radion. I'm torn between conduit. Or just going from the ceiling. The benefit of conduit in my mind it running the cable through the pipe and having the ability to easily raise the light for maintenance. If you have done this I'd love to see pics

I don't have a pic. But imagine 3/4 steel conduit with a 90 degree bend at top. I used 3/4 clamps to attach it to my stand. I can swing it over to side for maintenance.

That's what I was thinking except maybe running the cable thru the conduit and attaching it to cleats in the stand so I have the ability to lower or raise it.

Only problem I can see with that is the piping cutting into the wires after a period of use. Maybe is you use a bushing to prevent it or some electrical tape.

I used 1/2" conduit to hang my AI Vega and just wrapped the cord around the piping all the way down. It's not ugly, doesn't look too bad.

That' is my main concern also. I was thinking I could sand the edge to make it smooth

Looks good Jim- csnt really see back but if you can allow a few inches behind tank for flow to prevent dead zones.

The cut out put lt it on is a half inch smaller on all sides than the tank and it's a center overflow that I planned the rock a inch plus away from.

Getting close. Hopefully I'll have it up this weekend, and lots of new pics. What are your stocking ideas for fish. Right now I have a clown and a watchmen goby that will be transferred, I'm set on a flame angel and a sunburst anthiest. That could change. My wife wants a second clown, and I figure one or two more small fish. Any ideas on a small wrasse that is not likely to go carpet surfing. I'm planning on a mixed reef so the flame angel has me a bit worried.

Jim- Ive had 2 flame angels in my reefs over the past 7 years each lasting at least three years. Iv never had an issue. MAybe i got lucky with those two. Who knows.

The below thread is a review that has been going on for a few years now. It lists the flame as 78% safe. I think im going to ppost this on our forum for others to review.

Jimbo,

I would try to attach the big flat piece on top of the flat piece you have on the left column. I think this will give you more white space and give a ledge like appearance. Looks nice.
