July Club Meeting

The July Club meeting will be on Saturday, July 8 at 2:00. We will have a program on fragging soft corals. If you have a big coral that can be fragged, please bring a piece of it along. Location will be posted next week.

As we discussed at the past couple of meetings, we're going to start with how to "frag" Xenia. I've got a nice 2 foot square of it that I prune on a regular basis. We're going to cover everything from harvesting (reach in and yank out a handful) to mounting (jam a toothpick through the sucker) to getting rid of that rank smell (vinegar is your friend).

I figure I've got enough for probably 4-5 nice size colonies and another 2-3 smaller ones without making a dent. However, I do not have any rubble to mount them on. So if anyone has some, please bring it. One and a half to two inch pieces are best.

I think I've got some rubble I can dig out of the sump for people to use. If the Xenia hasn't grabbed it already.

Sounds like fun. I have about 50 pounds of tonga rubble. I was going to sell it for nanos but this sounds like a better cause..anything I can do to help save some reefs.

Any word on where the meeting will be yet? I would like to go, and I can bring a couple different kinds of xenia if they are needed.

It's going to be at my house. I don't post my address on public forums though so you should get it when Mike emails the club (you are on the email list right? )

We're going to be talking about fragging...there's been a lot of questions from people new to the hobby so at a minimum we're starting easy....yanking handfulls of elongata from my tank! If you have other species, feel free to bring 'em.

I'm not sure we need quite that much...though I haven't harvested any xenia in weeks so it might be close
