Jumping Clam

Pretty new to clams - Have a Crocea 6" under my 240W of PC lighting (MH arrives next week - then he'll have 400W of MH!)

Wasn't aware that clams could JUMP.:eek2: Reading other threads that say they can. Keep finding mine on the rocks below where I put him. He's up on a rock ledge so he's closer to the lights, but I keep finding him moved - either on his side or face down on the rocks below. I thought something was pushing him off! Had a hard time believing a tridacnid suicide attempt?

Nicely extended mantle, happy, responsive, etc. Should I just let him sit lower in the tank? Should I put some gravel around him so it's harder for him to move but can still open all the way? Does he need therapy to stop the suicide attempt? I'm having to put him back twice a day now.

Thanks

It sounds like that clam isn't too happy with the PC lighting. :(
The good news is that your MH is coming in, then you can photo-acclimate it to full duration of MH lighting within 5 or 6 days.

After that, the clam will begin attaching itself to the rock and bore in, to let you know it's truly happy.
BTW, do you have a copy of Knop's "Giant Clams" book? IMO, the baseline holy bible of clams. [Either that or I know stock with the publisher :D ]
