Just a recommendation on fish selection

I frequent LA and have ordered several times and want to commend you for the healthy livestock you always supply us hobbiests with. One particular thing I notice about your inventory is that 90% of the available selection consists of small miscellaneous fish or anthias, wrasses, etc. that typically stay on there for weeks at a time. Seems like whenever a decent sized specimen shows up it sells within minutes or within a day, anyways. I would like to recommend to LA DD that there needs to be more of a selection of triggers and angels for those like myself who are affiliated with FOWLR tanks. I think there were either 4-5 medium sized triggers that I seen posted on the list within the last 24 hours and they are all now gone. Just a recommendation, but I think you guys would benefit from making these more available than what they are currently.

I agree with jm, first of all you guys do have the absolute best livestock I have found, but I have always wondered why some items that sell almost immediately on DD are listed on LA as available, and why a steady supply of those hot items aren't offered on the DD. Maybe it is a marketing plan to keep them more desirable? Just my thoughts.

The do seem to sell very fast, and I know that I would like to see more of these fish posted.

looks like no one at LA DD is listening. I've been watching the trigger selection for the last 2 weeks. Very little selection and when something does come up it goes quickly for example a clown trigger that was 6.5" sold in a couple of hours. Blue line trigger sold very quickly. LA needs more nice triggers. They will sell. I bought from another place because DD wasn't carrying a selection of triggers.

wow, you gave them a whole 8 days to get in healthy fish, quarantine and put up for sale remember- only bad things happen fast in a reef.

I dont understand the issue. Divers Dens specifically offers individual fish which are rare, typically unavailable, or spectacular specimens. By definition, they are limited. Furthermore, being they are WYSIWYG, that would make them further more "limited".
Are you asking for fish to be offered that will last longer? So fish that arent in demand? Or are you asking for fish in greater quantities. This is against the definition of rare, or spectacular specimens. If Divers Den had excess amounts of all the fish, and all have gone through the quarantine process, and are WYSIWYG, the overhead costs and issues would be tremendous.

You have made the statement that you purchased the fish from another source- was it WYSIWYG? I have seen few, if any companies, that will do this accurately (real time). And certainly, none out there have NEAR the selection of Divers Den.

I agree with you, it is frustrating to get "beat out" of buying a fish that is nice. But there is no way around that. It is certainly not LA's fault.

Ah, I see. Alas, I think they are selling what the market is asking fo. There is a lot of predatory fish that have been there for a while. Eels, and sharks, etc. It is apparent there is a much greater sdmeand for the smaller reef fish. The best way to handle your dilemma is to sign up for the email notification for the species you are looking for.

I dont think it is apparent there is much greater demand for the reef stuff. Triggers and angels sell in minutes when posted. I don't think the fact that eels and sharks stay on there for a while means there is not an aggressive market. The point I have been making on here is that if there are clown triggers for instance available on the normal site, and they continually sale immediately on divers den, then why not keep a steady supply on divers den. that is just an example there are several fish that sale like that, that are available on the regular site. It has nothing to do with getting beat to a fish, it is just business sense to me.

Thats where I think we disagree. If it were simple business sense, dont you think theyd be doing it? I have seen many triggers and similar stay there a while. Maybe not recently, but absolutely in the past. Also, FWIW, I would guess that a fair portion of the angels do go in reefs from the purchasers (including myself).

I guess what Im getting at is that clown triggers are available from anyone, anywhere. Unless it is a magnificent specimen, why bring it in, and quaranbtine and prepare it. Realistically, the price will reflect this additional labor and cost, and then this will need to be done also with yellow tangs, hippo tangs, clownfish, etc etc etc. They are common fish that people can get from anywhere for cheaper, likely. Asking this source to turn their "rare and spectaculr site" into a giant LFS for mail order (making common and frequently offered fish WYSIWYG) is too far. If it is available on the regular site, why not buy it?

However, I do not work for DFSLA, nor feel appropriate defending their busniess tactics, as it is mere speculation. I just feel it was a low blow to comment against them as has been done in this thread.

We always welcome suggestions from our valued customers, and will our best to expand the diversity of fish offered in the Divers Den.

Larger show size Angelfish, Triggerfish, Groupers and Wrasse are a bit more challenging to find in exceptional condition, as the supply of these fish unfortunately is just not as strong due to their limited collection.

We will continually seek quality fish from reputable supply lines for the Divers Den to compliment the fish we offer on the LiveAquaria.com web site. Thank you again for your suggestions.

I am certainly not complaining about LA, they are the only place I buy fish from. I would agree that if they are not doing it, it probably isn't business sense. I was really just wondering why it isn't business sense. And it applies to all fish that sell fast, not just aggressives. Also, I see the divers den as more than just a place to get really rare or exceptional fish, to me it is a place to get extremely healthy and well treated specimens. And this makes them worth the extra premium, I would much rather pay 39.99 for a yellow tang off divers den, than 29.99 from regular LA or anywhere else, knowing that it had received that extra treatment. That is just my opinion, I have no complaints about LA, I didn't even start this thread it just seemed interesting to me.

but if you think about just the sheer quantity of fish they move in and out a day, the logistics of doing that would probably just be impossible
