Just added my first Monti and Birdsnest...is kalkwasser enough?

Before you dose you need to know where you are starting at. And then you need to test to see your consumption rate your main three to test would be alk calc and ph

Kalk will add calcium and alk to your tank. If you do water changes no need to put trace elements. Kalk will keep up with your tank demand to some extend. One issue with Kalk if your surrounding temp is changing it will change your evaporation rate which will change your kalk dosing rate which will led to some fluctuation of your parameters which is not desirable. Plus it will not work for tanks with high demand for alk... means sooner or later you will need to supplement Alk along with Kalk. Some try to increase their evaporation rate (to put more Kalk in) but Kalk has very high PH so to compensate they start mix it with vinegar... See things get more complicated and at the same time you not getting that 'stability'. Get dosing pumps and do two parts :). Kalk can be used (very successfully) to keep your PH from falling during the night but if you don't have PH problem - better do 2 parts.

If you just added your first sps you might not even need to dose anything, just water changes with a reef salt will be enough. It took my tank over a year to need supplement dosing. I use kalk IMO it is the best, cheapest and easiest way to dose alk and ca. Test a few times a week and see if you have a need to dose.

i dose kalk and test my alkalinity daily. When i added 20 sps frags it did not take long before I noticed a decrease in alkalinity daily. I've been supplementing with arm and hammer baking soda dosed at night when I get home from work.

i used bio-cal tropic marin & kent dkh buffer plus kent tech-M as well kent coral accel which is contains amino acid easy way to add in your tank.
bio-cal every other day 1 1/2 scoop
dkh buffer every 2nd day 1 scoop
kent tech-M magnisium 3x a week maybe 2ml
kent coral accel 2x a week 2ml.
