probably diatoms.. normal part of the progress.. time will take it away. I dealt with mine by reducing lighting and turning the sand over. good luck

Should always be expected. Just wait it out for the most part..It will get really bad and then go as fast as it came.

Couple things you can do...make sure your nitrates/phosphates are down, and get a decent cleanup crew. I suggest a few cerith snails

I've ordered from keyscritters.com and they were really cheap...really small snails, but really cheap and they cleaned just as good for me. They're in the keys (go figure ) so you may have to pay tax since you're in florida...unless you can just go to their facilities, but i dont know.
