Just an observation...

So, when I setup my newest reef, I scavenged various organisms from my other reef systems. One of these organisms was a off-white sponge from an overflow box. I through it in my refugium and forgot about it. I was rearranging the 'fuge and found the sponge. It had tripled in size and turned gorgeous purple in response to the lighting. I cut it up and they are doing great. Check it out. Nothing crazy, just kind of cool.

I don't think it was dead, just bleached I guess. It must host some symbiont algae or bacteria that is purple when exposed to light. When I cut it up a week ago(cuts are already healed), I placed them in areas where they each receive different amounts of light. I'm curious to see if the ones with more light grow faster due to the symbiont organism. I expect them to. It would be nice if I can get them to a decent size. I'm guessing it's some sort of ball sponge, although it's growth seems quite irregular.
