hello!
i recently moved to a new house and brought my 2 aquariums with me
36 gallon bowfront (reef), with:
-maroon clownfish
-6 line wrasse
-fuzzy dwarf lionfish
-yellow tail damsel
-fire shrimp
other tank, 40 breeder (species only):
-peacock mantis shrimp,
-blue velvet damsel
-2 stripe damsel
-3 stripe damsel
-yellow tail damsel
yeah i definitely know i have crossed the line as far as compatibility of all these species goes, and i knew it was risky. but actually, until i moved, all got along and lived in peaceful harmony!
when i moved i really wanted to protect the mantis shrimp and the lionfish, so i set up a 12 gallon and a 10 gallon QT tanks for each of them.
i moved and everything went successful and is alive and well! got the mantis back in his 40 breeder home and i moved my maroon clown into the 40 breeder because he's getting pretty big and needs more depth
the 40 breeder tank is fine, everything's doing great in there! but in the 36 gallon reef tank, all of a sudden i learned that my 6 line wrasse is not as peaceful as i thought he was! tried adding some new fish to the the tank and he started straight up harassing them!
now i'm STUCK with the lionfish in this little 10 gallon tank until i can catch that wrasse out of there, and i really wanna get him back into his reef home. obviously since i took the maroon clown out of the reef tank, the 6 line wrasse is now the new boss of the tank!
and on top of that i had an ammonia level of .025 in the lionfish QT tank when i noticed him breathing heavily just now
so i have a few questions that this situation has lead up to:
1) do i have to get rid of my 6-line wrasse in order to add the lionfish back into the tank?
2) if i did have to remove the 6-line wrasse from the tank, would he be able to survive with the aggressive damsels in the 40 breeder? (yes i know nothing is safe with the mantis shrimp anyway
)
3) i'm now floating a VERY MATURE bio-wheel from another tank in the 10 gallon tank, should that take care of my ammonia problem?
i need to save my fuzzy lion! he is a champ, and loves frozen food! he's been hardy so far...my heater on his QT tank even crapped out for a few days without me realizing it and the temp got down to 67 degrees!
of course i got the temp situation under way and the tank's back at 74 degrees, but all of a sudden just now he was breathing heavy and not too interested in food, and ammonia is reading at .025!
i don't have a nitrite test kit but i'm taking it to the LFS to get tested tomorrow. hopefully all can settle with the additional mature bacteria i added?
any advice would help at this point! can't wait til i can get established and have everything back in order! moving sucks lol!
