Just changed Modem with Comcast/Xfinity. Lost Apex control on PC and iPhone.

I'm sure it's very simple fix. What do I need to change for the new modem to regain my iPhone control over my Apex. Are the numbers different for different modem? My wireless router is still getting access, so it has to be just the new Modem.

What numbers on my display need to be changed in order to get computer and iPhone Apex control again?

If you have a new model you likely have also been given a new IP address and you will need to configure a port forward through the new router. Have you done these steps?

If you used dyndns or another similar service to manage dynamic IP from the old mode then you should only need to configure a port forward and the dynamic DNS settings in the new modem.

I am assuming that your modem is also a router as most of them are.

Ok, I figured they might have done that. No I haven't port forwarded with the new, but did with the old.

Yeah, it's a router and modem. I have an old NetGear router that's currently hooked up with the new modem. Maybe I should ditch it and just use the new 2 in 1 new modem.

So tomorrow morning I'll try to go in and change the IP address in the apex configuration and then port forward to that IP right? Or wrong.?

You have to configure two separate things.

First is setting up a service that updates your home IP address in order to access your home network from somewhere else. I use DynDns because my router was set up for it. All I really had to do was enable the option and pay for the service. I think it's like $25/year.

The second thing you need to do is configure port forwarding. Think about ports like doors. Your router has a firewall that essentially locks all the doors. What you are going to do is tell your firewall that it is okay to allow someone to enter door number xxxx and direct them to your Apex.

I use No-IP Free Dynamic DNS.

I already had port forwarding set up. A buddy helped me do it. So if they blocked port 80, what do I need to do? Do I change the port? If so, to what number?

And if my IP address is different, where would I correct that at? Or do I need to?

I can access the dashboard now on my computer and control/ turn pumps on and off etc..

I can control the tank from the display on the wall.

But, I'm a little confused as to what exactly to do to regain control on my iPhone?

My ip address is definitely different..it was...98.195.112.xx

Problem! I could not see your service on 98.201.44.xxx on port (80)
Reason: Connection timed out

So if the ip is different and port 80 is blocked, how is it that im able to log into the apex from my home computer. Able to control it from the wall display, but not able on my iphone. I just don't get it.

I'm not a computer guy, that's for sure.

I know it's something so easy to go change, but don't know what to change or where to change it. arrrr.....

Reefaholic, I have the same problem. Everything worked great on my android devices. When my new provider gave me the xfinity modem/ router, I lost remote connection. Wireless works fine, doing port forwarding on 1090, using no-ip, positive everything is configured properly. I know the problem is the xfinity. I have seen posts from others on my cameras forum site, with the same issue and no fix.

I think I found the problem!

Hi Jared,

Thank you for your inquiry. Your Computer and Wall Display are connected to your home network/internet. These are considered local connections. Your Phone is likely not connected to the local connection but rather connected to a Internet URL/remote URL to get control of the Apex from a remote location. You should be able to access the Apex from the IP Address on your local network.

To fix this issue, you'll need to log into your new router. Everything else is set up perfectly. Now, log into the router and look for the port forwarding section. Add a port forwarding rule. This will open up access to your apex Controller again from your reffaholi.no-ip.biz url you use to access the Apex from.

To connect outside of your home you will need to Port Forward your Apex IP address through your home router. Check out our Advanced Networking Guide for more information on how to do this. Once that's done you can access your Apex from the public IP address. Find your Public IP address by going to http://www.whatsmyip.org/ when you're at home on your WIFI internet.

not sure if you can but your best bet is to turn your modem into bridge mode this way it turns off the routing part and only uses the your netgear router for port forwarding. You have to do that with some roadrunner modems if its a modem router combo not sure if comcast lets you do that. I know roadrunner wants you to call to have it done but you can normally find the url to do it yourself on most modems
