Just got rock

Hi
Just finished putting in my live cured rock. Have about 20 pounds of base rock and 50 pounds live (40gal tank).

How the scape, any major flaws?

The hob filter has carbon and poly in it and will come off when nitrites go to 0.

The really purple stuff is Indonesian rock (40 lbs). The big cave type piece on the left is Indonesian too (purple on the back).

Yeah, nice job on the aquascape. Really looks nice. Are you going to put a background on the tank?

Thanks drummereef, no background planned. It's on a kitchen island so it's seen 360 degrees, plus it my first salt tank. I want to see everything that's going on.

I think so too, imagineer, -- I keep reading that you should have 1 pound for every gallon of water <?>

How long should I let the tank cycle --- three to four weeks?

Readings: Five days tank running:

Nitrite level: 0
Ammonia Level: .25
Nitrate Level: .25
PH: 7.9
Salinity: 1.023

Nice rock CyboRob, will be looks great with full of corals grows on it

just courious, how much you pay for that?

CyboRob:

Looks good...realized I kinda commandeered your thread --- did not mean to. Sorry about that -- have started my own thread.
Learning here!

Thanks uyenk,

The 40 pounds of Indonesian ( reefscience.com ) came out to right about $8 per pound shipped overnight.

10 pounds from a lsf (60 miles away) I found Monday at $5 per pound.

20 pounds of base $1.60.

Nice to see the Indonesian from Reefscience in an actual tank. I have 25 lbs. arriving tomorrow from them. Looks good!

Lots of caves... if you get fish you might never see them again. But it looks great to me... my tank is 360 viewable too, and my first tank. If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten a tank with the plumbing through the bottom, and a stand that could house all my works. My tank looks more like a work in progress than a showpiece.

I like the cube. I would have put more rock in my self, and added a slightly more powerful pump to the system then the stock one.

since it is 360 viewable, I would build more ledges and shelfs that can be seen through. also, it will cut back on hiding places in the rocks for fish to hide and not be seen.

Just got a bad crab now too

Thought I had him cornered but no.
I see another different crab in a crack about a 1/3 of the size of this guy also. This one is an inch or so.

On the plus side I've seen one Bumble Bee snail.

Cybo...get rid of that one, too. When they mature, they start eating coral, particularly mushrooms and zoanthids.

Ok....this is naive.....catch the crab and other things you don't want in your tank and flush "them" down the toilet??
