Been a while since my last update, thought id quickly throw out there where im at. Again im new to all this, but has been quite the adventure and loving every minute of it.

Updates:

1. been up and running since dec 4 2011, no lights, no critters, just sand , dry rocks, no smimming, just water flows. running bag of carbon in sump, and soon was replaced by the chemipure units.

2. tank was cycled by dec 23 2011. had used a live gulf shrimp at the begiining , had him for a week, ammonia spiked to liek 4.0, and he thereafter went carpet surfing. ammonia0, nitrite0, nitrate20, ph8.1, calcium440, kh12, sg1.025, phos off the charts lol

3. I innoculated the tank and sump with a bottle of Pods i picked up from FAIOS, and they have since than tripled in population and thriving, and god knows how many more i dont see in the rocks and such , but they everywhere

4. till past three weeks, have added a 48" 4x65w (from a gentleman in the club for real cheap i couldnt pass up) coralife compacts and been running them on a cycle. note: these lights are temporary till i get new lights soon enough.

5. From the TBRC JAN meet, i had gotten and introduced to the tank the estreme green zoas (seem to be duin fairly good), gren monti cap (still green), and the green/red pocillapora (thriving)

6. had the ballast to the actinics go out on the lights, have since been replace with new one (and damn if i didnt pay more for that than i did the whole fixture lol), also made a sheild for the underside with a sheet of Lexan i picked up from HD and cut to size, and also ordered legs for it too, since these werent on the fixture when i first got it. its almost brand new now 0.0

7. within a week of having the lights, "BAM BOOM KAPOW", holy diatoms outbreak batman! its all over the top sides of the rocks, glass, pumps, sand . tank is really maturing now, he is growing. ahhhhh

8. So last week, thought id take a trip out to Faois with Bob and see what i could get myself into . so ended up getting a small clean crew. x2 mexican Turbo zebra snails, x5 scarlet hermits, and a Sand shifting Star. they so cool :)

9. 2 days later, im down to 4 hermits, one cant be found anywhere :(. than the worse happened, couple days after the MIA hermit , i find the remains of a crab laying in the sand, eyes, legs, torso, pincers, im so sad.

10. very next night OMG! 5 crabs accounted for lol. it was a molt! ahhh a shed a tear for nothing hehe. damn had me fooled hard from the beginning hehe

11. lastily , family loves the hue of the atinics in the living room at night, so thought ima make it better, and was a good excuse to get this hehe Ecoxotic 48 Inch Stunner 24W Magenta/453nm Blue LED Strip , should be here Monday :)

12. and what would a thread be without pictures :)

I'd let the "wiser" heads chime in - but I am battling cyano in my tank and it makes the little "bubbles" like that when left unchecked - I scrub mine off the rocks and manually remove any from the sand that will "lump up" and my clean up crew is keeping up with it.

What I have read is that it feeds off the high phosphate. You may want to get some media to remove the phosphate. I bought some Phosban and mine has been improving.
