Just when you thought your day could not get any worse

You come home to see over 150 gallon of water on the floor. Thank goodness my tank is in the basement about 8 foot from the floor drain. The tank was about half empty and the sump was completely dry. The tank is leaking at the bottom in the back. it is coming up through the plastic rim. I have all the livestock in the sump and my 12 gallon nano. I don't know I am just so frustrated. A part of me wants to just sell it all and get out but I am sure I will miss it. I have to get all the sand out of the tank. Then I need to find out where it is leaking. I do not see any cracks so I am not sure. I just can't imagine that a seal would give way so fast without even leaking a little.

I am glad I do not have a sledgehammer at the house.

Nook said it best that's a tragedy!! There is really nothing any of us can say to make it better. My heart dropped into my stomach when I read this. Sorry man.

I am not really sure how old the tank is. I bought it from fkdenton I think he bought it from drBDC so it has made its rounds. it has been moved so many times too. I will get it cleaned out tomorrow and look and see what is up. I have cooled down a little too so I am going to deal with it this weekend. I am not sure what I am doing yet. I may just go back to the 75.

My 75 gallon was made in 1990 with all original seals. It's an oceanic, but you never know you could buy a new tank and it could leak.

Is all your livestock ok? if so, just take some deep breathes and take it one step at a time. If it is a leaking seal, it could be easy to fix.

Sorry to hear about this, keep your head up.

I have a 75RR that I won't be using for quite a while. You can borrow it if you need room to store everything in the 150. I also have a MH setup you can use above it.

SORRY TO HEAR!!! If you need anything, give me a buzz. My number is under the slash emergency contacts but if not it's 314-484-0383

Help cleaning up, storage, help getting it back up, or really whatever.

Sorry again. Glad it's in the basement. I'm terrified of this problem

I hope everything works out! Coming home to a half empty tank is never any fun, and certainly scary at best.

Man sorry to hear this, it really tough to one to take. I had the same thing happen to me about 5 years back. Luckly for me it was only a 55 gallon tank with about 25 gallons spilled. But just like you I had no warning. The seal at the bottom split over night. I think a big factor in this may really be how many times the tank has been moved. I moved my tank at least 4 or 5 times before the seal broke. Good luck with the clean up efforts.

ok so if it is the seal i guess a guy can just cut the old out with a razorblade then re seal it? i do not have any experiace with this so suggestions are welcome

Make sure the glass is thoroughly clean and dry. You can indeed reseal, just be sure to use a quality sealant for aquariums and don't be afraid to use plenty!!!

Just use some of the commercial tanks as an example and you could be fine. However if the tank glass has bowed a bit for any reason you might be better off with a new tank.

I am always trying to save some money, but recently have learned that sometimes buying quality equipment (used stuff can fall into this catagory like Tunze, Euro-Reef, Etc. Thanks Mr. Farmer) and new can cause alot less headaches than trying to save a buck ot two.

I did some research on silicone recently and it appears Clear GE Window & Door Silicone I is the same stuff used by AGA. There are some people that claim that they called GE and they said it used to say it was aquarium safe on the tube until they signed a contract to supply it to Perfecto or whoever sells it as Aquarium Silicone. Tons of people have used it with no problems. Just dont get the Silicone II with Bioseal, it is an anti-fungal and will kill stuff. If you need it right away this seems like a safe way to go.
