Depends on demand... If you have low demand, Kalk should be plenty. If you have high demand, use both. Check out the chemistry forum for more (Money well spent).
I have never used a kalk reactor, but my ca reactor was the best thing I ever purchased. I dialed it in months ago and today I tested everything "first time in at least a month and a half" and ca was at 420 & alk was at 8.5. Simply perfect. Only thing I do now is dose mag every few days. Life is great now! No more constant dosing of two part. & other stuff. I just get to sit back and watch the tank grow!
Now I have a Kalk reactor and it works for me. I have about 80gallons with about 20 hard corals that take up cal. I do dose Clacite and Calcium Chloride to make up for what the Kalk. can not.
I will eventually own both when my calcium demand increases. The Kalk keeps my PH up as it is pumped in as the water evaps...about a gallon a day. The Kalk output has a PH of 12.4.
You can start out with a Kalk reactor, but once things start getting big you'll need to pick up a Calc reactor.
