Kalk reactors

Do the motors on kalk reactors only turn the stirring paddles when there is kalk in the reactor? Or should they spin up when the reactor is empty too.

I bought a Bubble Magus KA150 and when I plug it in empty, the motor turns on but the paddles don't really turn and stir. Trying to figure out if its busted.

They turn extremely slow. Make sure the mixing arm is attached the the motor shaft as well. Screw or pin that holds it may have backed out.
