Hi, I hoping that some one here can help me with this question that I have. A LFS told me to use pickling lime in stead of kalkwasser. He said thats its the same stuff. Its was kind of hard to believe but he was dead serious. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this. Please share any knowledge you may have on this topic. Thank you.

go to reef chemistry forum, there is tons of info on the subject, thats whats in randys two part recipe.

NO, kalkwasser is not in Randy's two part. It is calcium chloride that is in Randy's. Kalkwasser is the exact same thing as pickling lime except it's more expensive because that's what they call it at the LFS' and mark the price up 8000%. Pickling lime=kalkwasser, they are both hydrated lime powder or CaOh I believe.

I use Mississippi lime out of a 50lb. bag which is the exact same thing as pickling lime and is what is used AS pickling lime. The Mississippi lime is food grade. It works just as good as kalkwasser from the LFS which is the exact same thing but 8000% less expensive.

Freed: that is awesome. Lime is one thing in a 50 lb bag tht would make sense. Don't get me wrong, Mrs Wages is a LOT cheaper than retail kalk, but I've got imagine 50lb bag has got to be way less...I guess 8000% less :)

I'm going to search around online to see if I can get it...let me know if you already know of such a place.
