keeping clam in tank with inverts??

I am thinking of getting a clam. I have 2x250 14K halides so i think i have the light part covered. But i do have several shrimp, crabs and hermit crabs. I have heard that this is a bad combo.
Can anyone elaborate on this subject?

I am no expert but I do have a Crocea (For 6 months) and I have several blue / red hermits and a cleaner shrimp. They have never even looked twice at the clam.

There are some inverts that feed on them, stay away from moon snails!!! but Ihave many clams and have never had a problem with shrimp or hermit crabs, also inspect your clams occasionaly around where the mantle and shell meet for small pyramid shaped snails they will eventually kill them.
