Can anyone tell me if this stuff is toxic to animals. I know it is ok to have in the water, but what if they come in direct contact with it. I had a bunch in a bag in my tank, and the bag ripped, so it sprayed EVERYWHERE. Do i need to syphon out a ton of sand to try and get it out, or just call it really expensive sand? I know if I leave it, the phosphates will leach back out, but I dont want anything to die as a result of this. Thanks. Bobby

I believe that Kent phosphate sponge is likely aluminum based, and I wouldn't use it for fear of it releasing aluminum:

That said, I wouldn't worry too much about some particles that got loose. They will likely got coated with junk and not do anything harmful in the long run.
The common signs of aluminum release are closed corals, such as leathers, green star polyps, and mushrooms.
If you do not see that, I wouldn't worry about it. If you do, I might try to remove it the particles.
