Key West Dive advice

I'll be in Key West a week from now for 3 days.

Can somebody suggest any dive sites/companies I should use/avoid?

Thanks!

Sand key was pretty crappy. Dry tortugas could be pretty fun ive never gone though. Sombrero reef is decent as is coffins patch. Nothing like the pics ive seen from the pacific though.

That said get on a all you can drink sunset cruise and/or a fun day in the sun cruise with fury adventures. Well worth the money, duval crawl is a good time. Mallory square is really touristy but the sunset is still just as nice as it was when i lived there as a kid and the street performers are a trip.

Sloppy Joes is wickedly overpriced, go raid some smaller bars and hit it for the party later in the night.

oh and its a drive north of kw but bahia honda state park is nice spot to get away from the big crowds.

I have not been diving in key west, but went on a snorkel catameran. I'm sure they didnt take us to a good spot, the boat ride was fun but reef is pretty bare.

West Palm beach has the best reef for diving, its totally full as the gulf stream comes in right there and brings tons of nutrients.

I recommend key west to drink and walk around, its not good for food or water stuff.

The beaches and water around suck compared to the rest of florida. I will say though Key west is one of my favorite places and ive been around all over.

Sand Key has some sweet spots, provided you are not right on the lighthouse. Then, it's crap. Dry Tortugas are great for snorkeling. Hit the outside of the moat wall and the old dock pilings. Washerwoman shoals are pretty good. I prefer West Washerwoman.

If you go up to Big Pine, get on one of the boats that goes to Looe Key. Pennekamp is usually pretty good out of Key Largo.

For a bar, try Captain Tony's (FYI, it is the original bar where Hemingway hung out about a block off of Duval)

I'm in keywest and going to go on a scuba trip in 1hr, I'll report back.

We went snorkeling in john pennekamp state park, that was kinda a let down. Way to many waves and very few coral, just a bunch of sea fans.

Southpoint is what we used, it was very good.

Today we went with 'Force E' dive shop in Boca Raton and they took us off coast of Boca and they had much better reefs in my opinion. I'll post some pics later.
