Gonna Need A Bigger Tank
Heading to the Keys on Saturday...I don't want to start another "collecting" thread, however, I was curious as to whether anyone knows of any good wholesale-type stores to visit while down there???
 
Youre welcome :) If you go, let us know what its like. We didnt have time to check it out when we were down there a few weeks ago.
 
Could always stop by Big Als on the way there or home, prices are only so/so but they have a lot of tanks to check out. :P
 
Where's Big Als??? When we're heading back (on Tuesday) we have to go up to West Palm for a conference, so anything along 95 that route might be cool as well...
 
I live down here now. Honestly I'd say to skip big als. The only thing I would go there for would be fish. They've got a lot of fish. nice big ones. rare exotic ones. coral selection is very minimum. live rock isn't too good but they just got a shipment in yesterday or today. if you do go. I think they get they're coral shipment in friday night so that might be good.

reefs edge(probably my fav down here)

all those are pretty much the ft lauderdale area. If you get on the FMAS RC page they've got a sticky with a list of all the stores and they're phone number, address, webpage, and times they're open.

We will be in the Keys Sat too. How long are you staying? What will you be doing? We just got certified, so we will hopefully be doing alot of diving adn my brother and the guys will go out fishing..............
 
Thank you, I will keep that in mind. Hopefully we can do most of our diving off our skis and my brothers boat. Maybe we can all go down to West Palm to dive when we get back.

I think Sat. we are doing the late snorkeling trip at Pennekamp...Sunday some snorkeling down around Summerland Key and then Monday in to Key West.
 
Brazngrrl: You dont want to dive in west palm. Its OK but the current is very strong. You basically get in the water and then drift with the current while diving and the boat moves and goes to pick you up where you come up. Diving in the keys is much better! I have been diving in west palm as well as the keys. I wouldnt dive any where but in the keys if I lived in Florida still.
 
I dive in west palm often, it's not that bad! lol

Just limited to a couple hours at high slack tide, if you don't feel like taking the boat out, just want to shore dive its pretty cool.
 
hey brazengrl are you skis two stroke or four stroke? if they are two strokes they arent allowed near the reef system. I can try to find the map of it, but you would be blown away at the amount of areas two stokes arent allowed down there. you can ride them next to shore lines all day long, but not out near the reefs. Just something to think about.
 
They are 2 strokes. @ years ago we went out to Sombrero reef with them with no problem, but someone did mention jet skis were banned from the Keys, maybe this is what they were talking about. Do you know where I can find the info?

Ok, I talked to Tracy at **FLORIDA MARINE PATROL
(305)-289-2320 and she said that jet skis were allowed by the reefs.
There are also boats that are 2 stroke out there as well.
If you find any thing else out please let me know.
