Kole Tang Experience

So after much deliberation I have decided Im going to hold off on the powder blue tang as its aggressive and ich prone. Im going tomorrow to look at a 4" yellow eyed kole tang. I havent found to much info on here about these guys. All that i have come across is they are picky eaters. Can anyone who has knowledge or experience with these chime in on what you think. The tank is a 140G 52x26x23 miracles tank with a yellow tang, mandarin dragonet, 2 ocellaris clowns, flame angel, sand goby.
Also Pics of yours if you own one would be great!

i love my kole tang. i never see him fight with anyone in my tank and as far as him eating, he is kinda picky and he will eat it but really dosent care when i feed flake or pellets to everone while my other fish go absolutly nuts but he is constantly picking off of the rocks and glass all day long

I've had my Kole for almost 2 years in my 225 gallon and he is one of my favorite fish. I have an Atlantic Blue, Powder Blue, and him and they grew up together. When they were small, he was actually the largest of the three, but the other two quickly over took him and now he is the smallest at 4 inches. He has a bristle mouth unlike the other two tangs and by far, for me, he is the least picky eater of the three. He is most peaceful, confident, first to food, and he is just too cute going all over the rocks and glass, eating algae all day long. If I had a chance to redo things, he would be the only tang in my tank. He doesn't bother anyone, not even when he was "king". I think with my experience, the Kole tang adjust best to captivity, that is, when you find a healthy specimen to start. Just make sure they are eating at the LFS before bringing him home, the make sure you quaranteen him and think about prophylactically treating for ich.
Best wishes!

I have had 2 . The first was kept with other tangs in a 6 ft tank and was very peaceful . The second was the only tang in a 8ft long tank and was a bully to all fish smaller than it and would start with my larger fish on occasion as well , so much so I had to remove it . Not sure if I would try another tang after that . Could be the other tangs kept the first one in place or it was just a difference in personality between the two .

My kole tang has an attitude. My yellow is considerably bigger than him but I don't think he knows it. Kind of like "little dog syndrome." Beautiful fish though. He had no intrest in algae sheets but he constantly pecks the rocks and glass. I will get some pics later if I can remember.

Great looking forward to the pics.
It looks like behavior all depends on the fish. I have read they are the most docile tang though

LOVE my kole tang,,VORACIOUS alge eater,, very nice, great personality and never once bothered anyone inthe tank!!

my kole is a pig. he will eat nori, brine, rods food, pick at rocks and glass. him and my coral beauty are best buds.

I just got a new baby kole he's about 3" and he is a wonderful fish! He was eating new life spectrum pellets on day 3 but picking at my rocks voraciously on days 1 and 2 :) He swims with my anthias like they are buddies and he even figured out that the seaweed on my clip was for him. I love how he observes me too. I have heard people say they are shy, but mine certainly is not! He really is a beautiful, fun, active fish! I have a picture AND a video for you :)

We have had our Kole tang for approx. 6 years. He will eat anything and is constantly browsing our live rock and sand bed.

Great Pics everyone, Im about to leave to have a peak at a 4" kole.
I will post pics of him later. Heard he is plump and eating like a pig :)

Mine is the smallest tang in my 6ft tank (I have a powder blue, and scopas). It is by far the meanest in that occasionally it harasses my leopard wrasses (black and Fiji). Great eater, cleans up any algae, eats nori, NLS, and frozen.

Like the little guy, but annoys me when it chases the wrasses...

Well went to have a peak and the kole tang looked plump and healthy. Great looking fish. I setup my 15G QT before I left. Now I ran into another issue....I saw a Beauty blond naso I want as well. Im going to start another thread about if its possible to QT both. Please check that post out and let me know.

I have a 4" kole in my 300. I almost didn't get him because he isn't really rare or anything but I threw him on the end of a fish order to save on shipping. Boy am I glad I did. Many people like him better than every other fish in the tank (and i have a few big $ fish). Most peaceful tang out there, picks on rocks all day long and tears up the algea clip. I have noticed that he is picky when I feed at night but i believe he eats plenty throughout the day.
