this is the koralia 1.
this is the second time its happened.
its ticking me off!

all i do is turn off the pump, when i feed my fish or do a water change...
and next thing you know, its dead.
i know theres been a defect on 2 and 3, but didnt hear about the 1.

is there an issue about these that i dont know about?
i always make sure its completely submerged when i turn the power back on.
i dont know if its just my luck or this is just a crappy product.

well it could be siezing from a calcium build up or something similar i really cant tell you what it could be. try taking it back to the LFS

I've got 8 of them going (#1, #2 and #3, four on each tank) alternately on a wavemaker with no problems. When I hit the feed cycle, they all go off for 10 minutes and come right back on afterwards. You could have a bad one there. Have you checked to see if there isn't a snail or something else obstructing the prop? If there's a lot of buildup you can pull it out and run it in a 50/50 vinegar and water solution (there was another thread here about that).

Typically when pumps don't come back on after a stop, it usually means the impeller is bad. Contact Hydor for a replacement.

the koralia is less than a month old.
the one that died before that lasted about a week.
so im assuming its not calcium.

its not a snail either, i have the covering on it and the snails i have are way to big to fit.

im gonna try taking it apart, maybe ill see something up w/ it.

have you tried just turing the impeller after you plug it back in, sometimes they just need a kick start. lol... hope its just something as simple as that. not sure what else it would be.

i tried kickstarting it by hand lastweek. it seemed to work then.
but for me, the problem seems to get worse in time.
kinda like a warning it is about to go.

im gonna try cleaning it today,
i do not think its calcium deposits cause its only been a month...
is a month usually enough to clog a pump?

That's strange. I'm kinda lazy, so most of mine are covered in various kinds of algae, coralline and who knows what and they still work.

could be... even the best of products have a recall at some time or another... have you tried calling them?

My Koralia 1 stopped working after several months of running nonstop and only after a heavy covering of coralline and bits of green algae. I removed it, did the usual vinegar powerhead cleaning, put it back in, and it works great again. No problems as of yet.

I think its just bad luck on my part.
I know their products are good, I only hear great things about it.
But there are bad batches with the other versions of Koralia, I can only assume my batch was defected somehow.

I havent gotten around calling Hydor cause Ive been too busy but I will as soon as I get the chance. Thanks everyone for the input.

I had the same problem with Rio pumps. I would have to plug, unplug, plug, unplug to get them to restart. I ended up throwing them away and won't buy another Rio. If yours are still under warranty, I would get another while you can.
