Koralia Powerheads - Pls chime in.

I was reading about Hydor Koralia powerheads and the specs look pretty good to me. I am currently using SEIOs (620s, 6 in a 135 gallon) and am setting up 180 RR. I was thinking of going with the few of the largest model (Koralia 4). At $45.00 at Marine Depot it seems like a good deal and guite a water pusher 1200 GPH at only 8.5W. SEIOs are pushing about 600 GPH at 6W if I recall correctly. If you have expirience with these please chime in on pros and cons and possible alternative. Pls help.

(Tunzes are out of budget)

Have a 4 in my 75g its a bit much for it but I have it in a good spot now. I think they are great for flow and there isn't a whole lot to break on it.

they are fairly new so there will mixed reviews on them....I had a seio 820 and it lasted about a year before the motor blew..never again....I got four moded MJ1200s running 24/7 for over ten years!.... I just clean them regularly with hot water/vinagar and alittle vasoline on the impropeller shafts...

I'm using a Koralia nano in my 29 nano reef. Can't speak for the larger models, but this one has very wide dispersion of flow, runs silently and has no problem restarting after being unplugged.

I have two #4's in my 125 plus two mj1200 mods love them plus hydor has exellant customer support - snapped off the connecting pin that holds the head to the magnet they sent me a whole magnet withpin set up no charge and without me asking for it. - askedif there was a way of purchasing/ordering a replacement pin

Thanks for replies you guys. It would seem that most everybody has a positive feedback about these guys. At $45 on sale for the biggest one you can't go wrong. I am going to get 2 right away and get some more of the 12V with controller when they become available. The biggest 12V is only a little bit more powerfull 1370 vs. 1200 gallons per hour.

Anyhow I am more then sure that these new ones with the controller will be much more expensive. Same was the story with SEIOs where they were giving away the powerheads and slap you on the wrist with expensive controller.

I just got this from hydor about pricing

K Nano 44.95
K1 49.95

400 for a wavemaker that controls 2 heads! am I the only one that thinks they are nuts???

^^^ I guess I'll get four 4s right away and forget about the whole controller idea. My fish/corals are doing great without a $400 controller right now, they probably forgot how to swim with waves on. LOL

For $400 that controller should make coffee, clean tank and.... send one of spitzer's girls over.

xoomer how much is the shipping from MD?

I ordered from fostersmith and s&h was around $15 and change if I recall correctly. They have it for the same price and I always order from them without a problem.

Have 2#2's and 1#3 in my new 65 gl setup. So far I'm happy with them but there's only sand and rock in there atm. You should look into getting the 12V models if they are available in the states because those will work with their new wavemaker due out at the end of the month.

oh and check drsfostersmith as they are having a sale. if the shipping is too much, check out aqua hut in coram as his prices are good too and he had them when i was in the other week.

12V powerhead sounds great but $400 for the controller is a NO NO by my standards. Not for a powehead controller at least.
