koran angel

Hello all. I bought a Koran angel about a month ago, 3 inches or so. It eats a lot, including nori and PE Mysis. Lately I have noticed it has a brown tint on it, not consistent over the whole body, but here and there across the fish.

Almost looks like the brown algae that you scrape off over flow boxes. Is this normal, could it be part of the change to adult coloration, or is this something that needs to be addressed.

Thanks

A picture would help. The one I used to have was so bright and vibrant then one day just started turning Gold under the stripes

How can you tell if it is in fact that, or the dreaded marine velvet I have read in some searches?

It's part of the change to adult coloration. Aside from that, marine velvet isn't brown IME. It's more of a white velvet covering the body of the fish.

here is a pic from today

What are you feeding and are you running carbon? It does look like he is changing. Mine got lighter when I ran carbon and darkened back up when I took the carbon offline. Which was more than likely HLLE starting from the carbon dust.

Understood. Its been this way, no worse or better, for a week or so.

My lfs seems to think angels become blotchy when they are not happy with something. Whether it be nutrition, parameters etc. He tested my water and said that wasn't the issue he could see. My sg is 1.24, temp 77. I will continue to feed more nori and pellets, maybe I was giving too much shrimp and not enough green matter.

angels do become blotchy when under stress or when water parameters become poor. it looks like your Koran is changing.

also do not add carbon unless you want him to develop HLLE. just continue to do water changes and maybe run a uv sterilizer to clear the water.
