Lace Panty Hose

I would like to put some macro algae that would normally go in a refugium in my display tank because I have no refugium. I'd like to harness the beneficial aspects, such as, nitrate and algae reduction that macro algae provides. My idea is to take lace panty hose and suction cup the hose to my back glass. Then I can stuff some macro algae inside the hose and it won't move around or just be shoved in the tank somewhere.

Is there any potential problems anyone can foresee with this idea?

I think it will make a pretty cool functioning backdrop for my tank.:inlove:

Maybe my question sould be more specific.

What's the best way to secure cheato to the back glass without it coming out and spreading to places I don't want it to?

Is this algae like a house plant, in that, when it's dark the plant puts out carbon dioxide?

I'm guessing you wouldn't know the amount of cheato, given a 20g tank size, would create enough co2 at night to substantially drop the pH to harmful levels or nah?

I don't have a clue as to how much can cause issues but I do know it is common practice to utilize algae in a refugium run on opposing light cycle to stabilize PH swing when lights go out in the main display so I certainly would'nt pass it off as "nah".

I do like the idea of adding color to the display but don't want to compound pH swing with the lights out. The reactor looks like a good compromise as I can leave it on at night.

Thanks!

I really like the idea of a macro algae reactor.

Do I have to worry about a flood if the power goes out like with a refugium setup due to syphoning?
