Nook is the giving kind... He'd never, ever do that. That would be just pure evil...

I wish Nook was my uncle. I would rather spend Christmas looking at his tanks than at fake Native American artifacts and sitting around a 19" tv watching msnbc....my uncle's house sucks...

you have great taste nanook, nothing like a good scotch I just finished a bottle of dalmore

Thanks, there are some great Scotches to be had for sure. My local liquor store will order most bottles I want and beat all online stores and Lucas which is saying a lot.

I had a Dalmore a few years ago that I really liked and can't remember what it was..that 30 year looks like it was a good time:)

Scotch is lighter fluid gone bad.....

Only one I've had that was tolerable was McCallen 40 year old.

Now Bourbon on the other hand.......Mmmmmmmmm tasty!

Oh come now Nick.... There are several very bad Bourbons out there, and I can really only think of probably less than a dozen really bad scotches.

I am a Bourbon drinker myself, but when a nice scotch presents itself, I am there. It's like appreciating foods from different cultures, each has something special to offer.

Now Gin... Might as well drink aftershave...

I've done extensive research on this subject, (bartended in various places for a 7 year period, (Bristol's, Growler's in Sunset Hills, Blue Water Grill, Remy's , and of course, The Pageant/Halo bar). IME, itsa much easier to find a nasty Scotch than it is to find a nasty Bourbon.

My favorite Bourbons are:

Booker's Noe
Knob Creek
Woodford Reserve

One thing that drives me nuts is when someone takes a high end Scotch or Bourbon and mixes it with something.

You can drink Bourbon or Scotch one of two ways:

Neat

or

With a single ice cube to cool it down.

Dont go mixing them with water or anything else. The distillers worked too long and hard to take all the water out and to give it the taste that it has for Jope Knucklehead to go screw it up.

Its a travesty ....

I agree w/ you about the Gin. Interesting fact:

Gin and Vodka are the same alcohol. Gin has been infused, (allowed to steep) in botonicals. Various gins use different herbs/plants, but juniper is the primary one which is why it has the main taste that it does...

Scotch is an acquired taste for sure. I have been drinking it neat for 8 or 9 years and can smell and taste the subtle differences depending on it's age, area of Scotland, etc, etc. It is a world unto itself;)

I do like some whiskey blends too...Blanton's, Elmer T. Lee, Rock Hill Farms, Pappy Van Winkle 20 year and Irish whiskey blends like Red Breast, Jameson 18 and Midleton Very Rare.

Scotch is certainly an acquired taste and I would not disagree that it might be easier to find a bad scotch than a bad bourbon. BUT when you have a good scotch it is hard to beat (as long as it's neat).

And I am quite a Whiskey drink I can sit down with a bottle of Single barrel Jack Daniels any night of the week.
