Large CPR's AquaFuge2 hang-on refugium

I just added the large CPR AquaFuge2 hang-on refugium with light kit to my tank. I was told I should keep the light on continously for maximum benefit. I am getting alot of light into the main tank at night. Will the adversely affect my tank, fish or corals??

Might cause some algae growth. I think whoever told you to keep in on 24/7 was wrong. I would run it on a reverse cycle from the display tank to help stabilize pH (meaning the fug light is on when the tank light is off). I would rig up some kind of light blocker to hang from the front of the light so that it doesn't spill in your tank. Heat resistant fabric works well. I have seen people use a small piece of this such as part of a grill cover, etc. in the past.

I have the same setup on my 50 gallon, and have had this setup before with the same problem. What I ended up doing was spray painting the outside front of the refugium, and this has worked out well. I also leave the refugium lights on 24/7 and this seems to help my Cheato grow and consume impurities, however I do not know if this is good for 'pod regeneration. Just my $.02

Perhaps I'm just lazy, but I have one on my 55 and since the back of my canopy is open, I just let the light from the tank light up the refugium. Yes, I know that there are benefits to the reverse light cycle, but this has been working great for me for several years now. The chaeto grows very well and needs to be trimmed back every week.
