larger angel for 75 gallon.

Is there any species of the larger angels that could go in a 75 gallon? Just trying to find out if it can be done or def. no no. Just didn't want to go the pygmy route unless I have too. Thanks
 
I had an 8 inch Emperor Angel in a six foot 225g and sometimes felt bad for having him in there so I sold him..Almost, if not all, angels will outgrow a 75g in a relatively short period of time. Sure others have gotten a large angel in it's juvenile stage and placed it in a "small" tank but they soon realize they have to sell the angel or upgrade to a bigger tank.

Speaking from experience, a blueface in a 75 is a very bad idea. When I bought mine it was a 1-2 inch juvi and I planned on having a bigger tank. Well, as it usually happens, I didn't get the bigger tank and I had to sell the blueface. Selling it sucked, first I had grown attached to it, and secondly, catching a 5-6 blueface (( or any large angel )) in a tank full of rock is a huge PITA.

So, IMO/E, only dwarf angels in a 75.
 
Like everyone else has said, the only route would be to get a Juvi and do a tank upgrade 4 - 6 months later... but since that probably won't happen I would say "def. no no"

actually, I'm sure 4 -6 months is too long.. it's prob more like 2 -3.. Someone else chime in.
 
I had my juvi blueface in my 125. At the rate they forage and pick threw the rock, and their Max adult size, 75 is way too small unless you plan to upgrade in I wouldn't say 2 months, but definitely 6. And by upgrade I mean 125 or bigger. Stick with dwarfs.

There are a few "large" angels that stay fairly small like the singapore and cream (both top out at a dwarf sized 5" or so) that could probably do in a 75 but that tank is much better sized for a centropyge dwarf. I have seen plenty of folks keep pomacanthus and holacanthus angels in a tanks this size but have never seen anyone do it sucessfully for any amount of time, its just a matter of time before the fish gets sick or the aquarist realizes the tank is too small and trades the fish.

I have a 180 and always thought that this tank size would be fine for large angels but I have had both a blueface and emperor turn very aggressive in this tank when they got to a certain size. I currently keep a majestic (the smallest and mellowest pomacanthus IMO) but I wont do another until I get a much larger tank. The bottom line is that a 75 is a great sized tank for a dwarf angel that tops out at 3-5 inches, not so good for a big brawler like most of the pomacanthus and holacanthus.
 
With a couple exceptions, I wouldn't hesitate to keep species from these genera in a 75 gallon: Apolemichthys, Genicanthus, Chaetodontoplus and Centropyge.
 
i currently have my 3 1/2 regal angel in my 75g reef but i can tell you he will be moving to the 175g bow as soon as it is ready for him(transfering the 75g reef to the 175g bow once i build the stand for the tank which is setting on my living room floor).. personaly i think the 75g is to small for a large angel even at 3-4 inches.. look at live aquaria and their tank size recomendations for large angels it is imo more fish friendly than their tang tank size recomendations

i put the regal angel in the 75g reef to help adust to captive life since he would be the king fish of the tank rather than my 2 200g+ rough and tumble fowlr tanks
