Lawnmower blenny

Hi there I got a lmb 2 days ago and am a bit worried, he doesn't seem to eat anything. Just kind of sits in his cave looking out or lays under my toadstool leather. I have plenty of algae in the tank but I never see him jump from rock to rock to eat any. He is the only fish on my tank at present, it's 7 weeks old and has a CUC in. Should I put some nori in and see what happens? He doesn't really seem to explore the tank just hangs out on one area.

He may be eating at night or when you aren't observing the tank, my lawnmower blenny did the same for about a week after I first got him. It takes time for them to settle in and feel at home.

Also if he is the only fish you have in the tank, he may feel threatened by a potential predator that is not there because it doesn't see any other fish around, and therefore wants to hide as well.

When I put a Starry Blenny (pretty close in relation to a Lawnmower I think?) in my tank, he sat around doing what I thought was NOTHING all the time, but I happened to stay up late one night, and walked past my tank to see him burrowing under some small rocks, creating little caves, and chewing on the glass and rocks. Mine doesn't go near nori, but my turbos seem to love it.
Now, I did just add a Ruby Flasher Wrasse, and that got my Starry Blenny to go into overdrive. He likes to chase my wrasse if it gets too close to his hole, in a "Get off my lawn" kinda manner.

Most of the time Lmb are a hit or miss. They tend to only consume a single type of algae or a small set of algae they are familiar with and if you dont have those particular algae in your tank, it might starve to death. Smaller specimens are more flexible in terms of adapting to a new diet.

try offering some meaty food, like frozen myses.

they are primarily detrivores, and film algae eaters. not so much nori and filamentous algae (but you should try nori too).

I have had 3 lawnmowers while in this hobby and I had great success of them eating Nori. I would just try and see. I would rubberband a piece to live rock rubble and put it on the sandbed. Good Luck!
