I just got a small lawnmower blenny and was wondering is anyone could give me some pointers on caring for it or some interesting facts...thanks alot

Fact #7 of fishkeeping:
-Never buy a fish before researching about it. This will prevent an "opps" of not having the right tank conditions.

Lawnmower blennys will eat a number of things around the tank but you must have a fair amount of liverock in the tank for it to eat off of. They will also eat sheet algae for example but its best for them to live off of the liverock.

I love fact #7.......Ive had a couple people on here get real butt hurt when I have suggested it, but I think its something to live by. : )

ive always researched stuff before I buy...but as you people know the internet will give you 50 different readings and specs on one fish that all contradict eachother

All you have to do is make a thread here on RC and the members will be more than happy to inform you on the fish and give you advise on rather or not your tank can handle the fish.

We have a Lawnmower Blenny in our 120 gal. He does "graze" on the rocks...but we don't have alot of algae on our rocks. He will pick at some Nori....mostly I see him going for the Formula 2 Frozen formula.

Also....sometimes when we get an algae buildup on the back glass of the tank....he goes after that. I have to laugh because he makes the cutest darned "lip" marks all over the glass!

I have had mine for about 3 weeks, have not fed it a thing it spends its days picking at my rocks as well as the glass. Seems to be enough for it, definitely does not look like he's starving.

I think the key is to wait a bit for your tank to mature, so it has enough stuff to graze on.

These guys are always labaled as Hair Algae eaters but to tell you the truth i dont think they like the stuff very much. Mine will eat it but only if its a new sprout, if its nice and long he wont go for it. Usually they will just pick off the rocks and glass but you should feed them other things as well. Mine absolutly loved Nutrafin Flakes, he fights my marron clown for em :)

can anybody tell me about midas blennies. i dunno which to get. lawnmower or midas. i like how a lawnmower can camoflage but i luv the midas's colors..

I feed with Nori on a veggie clip (he'll pull and tug it all day long) plus use an algae based (sinkable) pellet (he'll nibble it all day long as well...almost like a toy).

One of the greatest tanks fish with personality to spare:)
