leaky pump causing problems?

If a rio pump quit working and smelled funny, would it cause bleaching in sps if there was a leak into the internals of the pump? I've been having issues lately with my sps and my chem parameters..

I don't think so. You should look for another cause.

It depends which Rio pump. A Rio 2100 or 2500 will nuke a tank and kill everything in it. Other models (600, 800) that some skimmers use are fine, as long as you can get them to work.

If you have a pump that you doubt, better pull it out and replace it.

What issues are the SPS having specifically?

If you exposed a copper wire in a severe damage scenario, that could be a big problem.

Did it trip a GFCI, or just stop running?

just stopped running... but I found a dead cucumber last night...

I've got one acro that is stn'ing... and about 5 that are fading...

didnt trip a gfci.... just stopped running...

I would check your nitrates, phosphates & ammonia.

Something is happening. Your water can't be perfect with livestock declining.

You could check for stray electricity with a digital voltage meter. One end goes in the ground hole of a nearby outlet, the other probe goes in the tank, and you set the meter to read 220v AC. You want it to read 0.

The pump is externally cooled by the water it is in (not an internal coolant),so there should be nothing but copper, steel, plastic and epoxy that the pump could contribute. An acrid smell is typical of a shorted electrical systems or over heated armature winding insulation. However, you should only be able to smell over heated external wiring insulation. If the smell is really bad then the pumps seal is probably compromised.
