leathers closed up

for several weeks my leathers have all closed up and remained this way for several days before reopening. One day my toadstools will close up... another day my colts will close... another the finger... youngs leather... yellow leather... etc. Completely random. Some of the xenia is now shrinking and dying off. I am starting to worry something is wrong with the tank. The other corals - several torches, hammers, frog spawn, bubble, monitpora (green, red, orange and purple), zoas, palys, mushrooms, etc. all seem healthy and growing like weeds. the red and green bta are doing great. water changes (55 gallons) bi-weekly with reef crystals (same salt). nothing new in the tank. All my parameters are in check. any ideas what's happening.

180 gallon tank
40-50 gallon sump
10 gallon refugium
72" t-5 lights (12 39W bulbs)
ATB Skimmer

Could it have something to do with flow? As you probably know, most leathers will take a lot of flow, and as they grow larger, they may not get enough circulation.
