What type of LED, what drive current, how many LEDs and how far apart are they? Width of the tank front to back?

You also need to consider blending of multiple colors and overall coverage of each color where the beams will hit the water surface, NOT the bottom of the tank to get good blending and coverage, otherwise you end up with the dreaded "disco" effect if the colors haven't blended before they hit the water surface.

In most cases in a canopy I'd suggest running it without optics at first and see if you are getting adequate light for your corals. Beyond that unless it is mounted very high over the water the widest angle lens available are typically more than enough and often too narrowly focused still.

The average lens for example really emits most of it's light in less than a 45 degree beam which can create pesky hot spots in the tank, which may look fine to the eye but can bleach corals rather easily.
