LED lights resting directly on top of tank

I just got some lights for my tank and wont be able to mount them anytime soon. I have a metal screen covering my tank. Is it a bad idea to just lay the led light on top of that in the meantime?

What led lights, a strong led light will bleach everything direct under it if it is that close.

As long as they have some sort of splash shield on them and you keep them clean of excessive salt spray and adjust the light to not be too strong then sure.. Its fine..

If they have an AC cord plugged directly into them then be sure you put them on GFCI protection so that "if" they fall into the water the GFCI will shut power off..
You can get power strips with GFCI protection or outlet adapters,etc... like this ..

What kind of metal screen? Most metal rusts which will cause bigger issues, but I would be worried about an arc from the power cord that plugs into the unit to the metal screen with possibly a greater chance of occurrence due to the wet conditions. If the cord doesn’t plug directly into the unit and the connection is away from the water it’s not an issue, but definitely get a GFCI.
