I would like to convert my tank to LED's. I am switching from 2 96 watt PC bulbs (1 actnic and 1 10k). The tank is basically 36" long by 12" wide and 14" deep.
I should be able to get the LED's about 9" above the surface of the water.
I believe I have settled on 24 LEDs using 80 degree lenses. I was thinking of using 2 6" x 9" heat-sinks with 12 LED's on each. However my concern is that those two heat sinks will only cover 1/2 of the length of the tank. Should I just go with a 4" wide heat-sink and target at least 24" if not 30"? I would prefer to have fairly constant lighting from end to end.
Finally - What are most people happy with in terms of ratio of cool white vs royal blue Crees? Should I maintain 50/50 or 16 royal blues and 8 cool whites?
I appreciate any input based on your experience..
