LED viability question...

Thanks for the input guys. Truely, my biggest fear is in lack of design knowledge. I'm an environmental science major, not an engineer! Really, I just don't want to spend the money to build a unit, then screw it up.

I would consider healthy growth over a period of 1+ year good enough data for me. =D

Ok, so I LOVE new technology for my tank just as much as anyone else. I also love lower bulb replacement costs and electric bills. Good for the wallet, and the planet. But in all the excitement over LED's, does anyone have any links to threads where people have experienced good results of coral growth and coloration over an extended period of time? All I've been able to find is "look at pics of this cool fixture I just bought". Thats great and all, but long term? I just want to see some solid results before I sell my T5 fixture and dive head first into an LED fixture.

Thanks in advance.

There are a few 2-3 yrs with great results. I have had mine for nearly a year now and will not go back to MH. Same or better growth, great color, no heat, lower electric bill, no bulb replacement, infinite adjustability. They were over 3k to cover my 72" tank so if they last 3 yrs they pay for themselves. If they last ten, well then great!
