Does anyone here have any experience with a leopard wrasse, i'm gathering some info on what i want to stock my tank with, are they hard to feed? do the acclimate well? thanks!

I have had my leopard wrasse for a few months now. Some people have trouble getting them to eat at the beginning but I had no trouble at all. I dripped acclimated mine for a couple of hours before putting in the tank. He is my favorite fish!!

i have two, they are wonderful fish and IME, very easy to keep! they both eat like little pigs and acclimation was no problem, the drip method is a good way to get it done. just be sure you have an adequate sand bed for them to bury in at night.. :)
good luck

I will echo what the others have said. Mine lived in a q-tank for several weeks and took to food the first time I tried. He eats anything I put in the tank, mostly Mysis, small pellets and even Nori. It was by far one of my best recent additions, truely a cool little fish. Very active, non-aggressive, eats well, fun to watch, etc.

You absolutely do need a sand bed for them to bury themselves in. Mine sleeps in the sand every night.

I wouldn't think very deep. I have a SSB in my tank, it ranges from almost nothing to maybe 1.5" deep in areas. I'm pretty sure he sleeps in the deeper area.

Mine doesn't really show any aggression at all. So, from my experience, I'd say it doesn't matter. In fact, it gets chased around by a clown fish!

Best of luck with it,
Ron

African Leopard

African Leopard

I have had my African Leopard for three years. He is a great fish, always visible and looking for food.

I have heard that this type of wrasse can be hard to keep but I have had no problems with mine. It was a few years after the tank had been established and teeming with pods. I have a fuge that is a pod producing machine.

Good Luck
