Hi, I am new to the Bay Area reefing scene, but have had a few reef tanks when I lived in SoCal. I am in the city of Berkeley, but I have been struggling to find decent fish stores to get livestock from. If you are in the area, where do you like to go? It seems for the most part, I have to drive out an hour or more for a decent fish store with reasonable prices?

Also, could someone pm me with all the local forums and sources people use? Or is this subforum the most poppin?

Where in SoCal? I was down there for a bit and used to go to tongs and reef hotspot. Berkeley is pretty dead for livestock since lucky in Oakland closed down. You could try Albany aquarium but they're better known for their fw plants and fish. Join the bar site. Bay Area reefers.

Aquatic collection is probably the closest store for you. Its about 30mins from Berkeley and has a great selection of fish/coral.

@psidriven

I was in Cerritos Area. I also went to Tongs! There were a lot of good stores in the area I felt. I think the biggest thing was that there were stores close, far, and in between.

Also shopped a few times at reefhotspot. They had those a ton of quarantine tanks to ship their fish.

I'll check out aquatic collection and albany aquarium. Hopefully they are better than the petco I visited :D

The best stores in the bay imho are prob in San Jose and Dublin.

It's hard to beat SoCal since the distributors are based around lax.

I'm in Taiwan now and am spoiled by the large and affordable selection of livestock. Unfortunately the hardware portion sucks. Missing Home Depot haha.

There's nothing really close to Berkeley. IMO, there are 4 good reef stores in the Bay Area (in order from north to south):

Diablo Corals - Mostly for corals.
Aquatic Collection - Best selection and quality of fish in the bay. Also lots of corals.
California Reef Company - Mostly for corals. Was briefly a Reef Raft store, very high end stuff, nice coral selection.
Neptune Aquatics - Good selection of corals and fish. Best selection of tanks in the bay area.

Most, if not all of these are members on this site and regularly participate in BAR activities. All 4 are high quality are reputable stores.
