LFS in Tuscaloosa

there is also pet supplies plus that has a decent selection. the dont have any corals but they are pretty good on fish when they get a shipment in. the are on McFarland

Thanks, I was in Tuscaloosa earlier this week and went to Spillers, there tanks were the dirtiest I have ever seen, most had evaporated to half empty and all were covered in cyano, though the guy said he had a shipment coming in two days, I hope not. Filthy place but thanks for the info.

jorobison, I see you're in the Shoals area. I am also.

I had the same experience looking for LFS in Tuscaloosa a couple of years ago.

It's a shame that there's not really anywhere here in the Shoals for saltwater tanks anymore. Although, it is nice to see that Petco in Florence seems to have stepped it up a little in the last year or two. They are actually carrying a few corals these days. I hadn't been in there in a while until today. They were pretty busy, but the guy in the department back there knew his stuff... I can't say that's always been the case at that store.

One of the "sales guys" at Pet Supplies Plus was trying to sell the whole setup to these two girls take home fish and all. I started talking to them they didn't know anything about fish, toping off, cycle or anything. The sales guy got ticked off at me cause I told them to buy a book first and the tank later, lol

That has always been my experience at our Petco. Olwiggum, not sure of your experience level but beware what they tell you there. I too wish there were better places here in the shoals, have thought about opening my own many times but just not ready to make that leap yet. CRA in athens is by far the best around here.

I compleatly agree with both of you on the LFS situation in the Shoals. I wish there was a good LFS there.

About the Florence Petco....I used to work there for 3ish years. it was a good place to work, BUT if you were looking for advice about you aquarium (fresh or salt) there were only a couple of ppl worth talking to. most of the time the people that were good for advice were also active hobbyist that learned what they know outside of Petco. That doesnt mean that everyone there was stupid. It just means that most ppl there were interested in something else other than the reef hobby. There were reptile nuts, Dog training nuts, and all sorts of other hobbyist. Then of course you had the one or two random ppl that just wanted to be a cashier to make date money.

CRA, imho, is the best, hands down.
