LFS in WilksBarre area

Lol what's the name of the store dan? Maybe we should start a poll for an unofficial name

Too late bro, lol.its been Rigle's Reef (JK)for a while now with most actual stores in the area being clueless to what us salty dudes crave lmao.Someone has to have the goods in our area!!!

True that dan!! I'm in need to stock up on brightwell since I'm starting the neozeo soon and retail shipping is unreal in price. What are your thoughts on the biopellets?

Ted,I would stay away from them.Too many horror stories out there and you know me,old dog,old school. To reduce nutrients I use heavy wet protein skimming and heavy export ie water changes and Macro algae harvested often.A much gentler approach to manipulating N and P

Now tell me how you really feel lol. The methods you speak of I've been doing. I upgraded skimmers water changes 25% every week. I had the macro running for awhile but it turned into a breeding ground for flat worms. I've been reading about the zeo methods for about 3 months now and just started plumbing in the reactor. The only reason I'm going in this direction is because of a pretty invasive algea that has broken out in the tank. I haven't been able to id it but I believe it came from a magnet that has a spot of epoxy worn of or cracked

If You are still running the nano then I would not recommend it.Larger tanks can get some interesting color pigments with the ULN they achieve (using zeoliths and a reactor)unfortunately the coral is often on the brink of RTN and any tiny shift will take them out.Seen it too many times and theres always a reason from the Zeo heads ie Alk was too high(at 8dkh I doubt it lol)low potassium, bac bloom low iron etc... that causes the death but really is it that or is it the fact that the coral was on the brink of starvation and any thing could trigger its demise.Small tanks are much more difficult to keep stable so bacteria systems do not fare well in this respect.Large thriving mature sps tanks and the corals within can handle the metabolic shift much better to low nutrients and depressed nitrogen and phosphorus from the typical NSW levels we always striven to keep.

My belief is ,you have algae, you need more herbivores. There is always a simple and biological approach and at times a much safer one.I would research the algae with Borneman or another one of the brains on algaes and find out what eats it and try putting the right population of them in the tank.

A cover all approach would be a variety, tiny hermits,a few species of snails, tangs, algae blennie etc...Urchins if necessary. They can easily be removed later if need be.

If you believe nutrients are the cause of the algae then I would send a water sample out to ENC and see where your levels are at.Before you send it out do the big three with your kits and document it so you can tell if your kits are accurate to ENC results. They will give you an accurate reading on metals, phos etc that we as hobbyists have trouble testing.
