LFS quote for new tank

Hello,

I am exploring the purchase of a new tank. Currently, I have an older 140 Oceanic 140 gallon mixed reef (48x24x28). Over the years, it has sustained a few scratches and I am thinking of replacing it with a 150xh (48x24x30) this year. I just got a quote from my LFS that seemed rather high. For a Visio tank with the listed dimensions, starphire glass on three sides, black silicone, center overflow and eurobracing, the quote was $1,600.00. If I get a new stand, apparently required by the manufacturer for warranty purposes, that takes it to about $2,500.00. I want a really good tank which is very well built. My current tank is 1/2 inch on the sides and 3/4 on the bottom...which is exactly what I'd want on the new one. Also, call me odd, but I like the look and security of plastic trim on the top and bottom. My question.......is the price quoted high? If so, where should it be and can you recommend someone to me in the LA area?

Thanks,

Robert

That doesn't sound outrageous for the thickness and materials you want. Not sure the quality of the stand, but that's an area a lot of manufacturer's skimp on, so $900 for the stand 'might' be a bit pricey, depending on material and construction. A 150 XH perfecto with black silicone and corner overflow is about $600 here. But that will be standard glass (tempered on bottom), 5/8" sides with plastic trim and brace (all one piece). Starphire is more expensive, and thicker glass more still. Add the eurobracing and center overflow and it doesn't sound ridiculously overpriced. Just my two cents....which won't go far on that baby!
