lfs???

i found out my lfs store is closing . i live in ne alabama about 30 minutes north of gadsden. the lfs that i have used for the last 3 years is the living reef located in rainbow city. he says that he just can no longer compete with the chain stores and the internet prices and make a living. Does anyone know of any other really good, clean, friendly, and knowledgeable stores? I have bought supplies on line, but i am leary of livestock. I am just now getting ready for corals and was so excited in picking them out....i would also be intersted in getting involved with reef clubs. I wouldn't mind driving to b'ham, gadsden, or huntsville

Wow that sucks. I haven't been to the living Reef in a long time. Last time I was there it was a great shop.

Have you tried Langs on Hwy. 431 in Glencoe? It's no Living Reef, but not bad.

langs has nice people but is all freshwater now...no coral systems and a few saltwater fish

I thouhgt Jerry was going to stay open for a while until he could sell most of his stuff out. I know hes going to keep doing maintances. I know he got a job at the depot and thats the reason for him closing. There are a few good stores in Oxford. ValleyTropical Fish and AquaEscapes. Both are good stores and only about 30 min away from Gad.

thanks for the input....Jerry said it would still be a couple of months probably. he has a couple of people interested in the store so he is trying to work that out. I know what you mean he and his daughter are very knowledgeable and great to talk to i have spent hours in there just talking to them. I first started with lang's then found tlr. when i was in langs last month they had very few sw fish and absolutely no corals and that is what i am looking for now. i will realy miss jerry he has been awesome to deal with

I wonder if Brent won't crank his reef stuff back up once Jerry is out of business...he'd be the only game in town.

maybe we need to put a bug in brent's ear....he is also very friendly. i had bought my tank and starting supplies from him then i found TLR, they were just more knowledgeable about sw. It is really a shame that Jerry is getting out but you have to be able to survive and he said the benefits of the new job he couldn't pass up. i just really like him b/c he always took the time to talk and help you with your tank questions. i also like to go in somewhere where they aren't just about a sale, but actually will talk you out of buying something if it is not good for you tank. that is the kind of trust i am looking for.

Not going to happen. People have been tryin for years to get him to start caring SW again and it aint happened yet. Ill 2nd that about Jerry very nice guy. Only had one prob I never could get out of there from talking

yeah langs bought all the tank systems from walmart and broke down the frag tank...i asked him if he wanted to sell it to me but he said he might set back up eventually....i went in there a few times to see if has put anything back up and it has probably been about a year since i been in there

Valley tropical fish in Oxford is good, and I went there the other day, very nice, and a good selection.

he has not closed yet...they dont know when it will happen but i was up there thrusday night...they dont open till like 10 or 11 or something like that...he doesnt really have much anymore...i am thinking about going to buy some equipment even though i dont need anything

Does he have any good deals on equipment? I bought a used tunze cheap from he awhile back but he would not cut any deals on anything else at that time

i think they have just started to close on sundays now....and the regular monday....try tuesday he had to much stuff left to sale and not advertise a going out of business sale

I went on Sat though. And I am coming all the way from Bham and would like to know for sure if someones gonna be there ya know So if anyone goes by there I would like to know the status

And I guess the odd thing was that his phone was disconnected
