Light for acropora

I was just curious as to what types of acropora spp would do well with a 150W 14K HQI pendant suspended about 7" over a 12" tall aquarium?

I agree, depth is what matters (assumng acros are placed under the reflector). My tank is 12" deep and I use a higher par-175 in a luminarc. I keep the bulb suspended about 8" off the water, the bottom is starboard so it works somwhat as a relfective surface. With that in mind I keep most things in the middle to lower half of the tank. I can keep higher light acros without an issue and I have found that some deep-waters have problems adapting to the light (they bleach very slowly). I think you will be ok, some of the higher light acros might have problems if not placed close to the light. Also, depending on the 14k you might be very low in par. I used a hamilton 14k prior to the iwasaki aqua2 14k I use now, I had to keep things much higher in the water column and growth much much slower.

If you have really good water quality and flow you can probably get away with anything, you might lack growth though dependng on the bulb. Acros seem (ime) to adapt to lower light faster than they adapt to much higher light than they are use too, assuming good parameters.

Tank is 30 gal. Dimensions are 2'L X 2'W X 1'H. The 14K bulb I am using is from Phoenix.

FWIW, I was mostly interested in trying some staghorns like the green Bali slimer, and maybe a blue or blue-tip acropora formosa. If I can get away with some of the other types later on then that is cool. I would have them about 6-8 inches from the water surface on the rock.
