so i get home from work and smell something burning. i got to the tank. the smell is coming out of my canopy. i turn the lights off. wait for smell to go away. turn them on again and smell comes back. so i turn them off. i am now checking each light one at a time. i turned on the first MH and the smell comes back. i am waiting for the smell to clear. so i can turn on the second and so on. to find out where the issue is. anyone have any ideas i haven't changed and thing on the tank or setup. i put a fish trap in. but i dont think that is the problem.

ok the problem has to due with the left MH. i took the bulb out. the base of the bulb, the part that screws into the socket smells burn. doesn't looked burned just smells burned. anyone have any ideas. it is an XM 250 20k. it has been running since nov. the ballast is a coarlvue 250 it will be a year in march.

Do you have another spare bulb hanging around? If you do plug in the spare bulb and see if it still makes that smell. If it does its the socket if not it was the bulb.

Doubt it. I may have an extra but then again I may need it to sell my two 400 watt halides. If you want to use it in the mean time whne waiting for a new one PM me.

Do you have the Lumenarc reflectors? If so, you can pick up a new socket for cheap at Pacific garden supply

I think we are going there on thursday Clay if you need us to pick up. I think they might have mogul bases at home depot also?

i think the moguls at PGS are around 20 bucks. Plus if you come down this way you can stop by and see my tank! hehehe :)
