Hi All,
My name is Philippe and I just started the hobby. I leave in San Francisco and got a used 40Gal tank out of craigslist. It is 30" long 13" deep and 24" high.
I have a remora C protein skimmer, a Fluval 304 filter 2x koralia 500g/h and 1 750 g/h.
So far the population in my tank is:
2 clown fish
1 skinny fish yellow in the front and purple in the back (came with the tank)
1 fish that eat sand
1 cleaner shrimp
5 turbo
3 hermit crab
some snale that goes under the sand (no idea how many but may be a couple)
1 bleu start fish
2 feather duster (about 3 inch big)
1 white anemone with purple dot at the end
1 regular looking anemone
1 torch
1 frogspawn
1 plate coral
1 purple mushroom

some rock
some sand

my light came with the take and I think they are 2x65W compact ( odyssea with one light of 12000K)..
I have a feeling I need to upgrade my lighting...
Do you think the light is good enough or should I upgrade?
If i need to upgrade do you guys have any recommendation for someone with a limited budget? website? brand?
I found this one what do you think?

Thank you so much for your help.

welcome to the boards your at the right place. With that tank size i would look around for a used 4 or 6 bulb t-5 setup. Seems everyone is jumping on the led bandwagon and there for sale everywhere. Ati makes great t-5 setups. The bulbs are cheap and there are tons of options around.

You will be much happier with a 4-6 bulb t5 fixture. You will be amazed at the difference once you upgrade! Imo less are still too expensive. Go t5.

i love metal halides but in a small tank you might have a problem with heat. i do agree, go with a 4x bulb T5 fixture.

With a tank of your size, LED seems the most versatile.

When I had a 30" long tank, it was extremely frustrating how few fixtures fit the dimensions. I ended up purchasing an aquaticlife fixture and wasn't very happy with it.

So, IMO, DIY LED fits both your budget and are adequate for whatever lighting needs you can possibly have.
