Light to strong?

I have a tank that started with all dry rock. I wanted to seed the dry rock with coralline algae, so I went and bought a few pieces of live rock with it on them. I put the live rock in my main display but I noticed within a week it looked like most of the coralline algae has disappeared from the live rock I bought.

The light fixture I am using is a ATI 6 bulb dimmable fixture, that I have about 6" above the water. Once I seen most the coralline was disappearing I took it out and put it in my sump and it has stopped disappearing.

Can this light bleach the coralline algae? Also, is 6" to low to hang the light?

Probably, how deep is your tank? I had a 125 w/ a 6/80 sunpower w/ the same result starting out. Had to raise it to 12" above the water to get some coralline to start growing back.

In my case it was the strong lighting combined w/ the cycle induced by adding the live rock. I started w/ half dry and half live.

Since you have the dimmable fixture turn it down, especially if you have no corals right now.
