Suggestions on lighting and amount of time lit daily? Also, what is the optimal amount to put in a somewhat small sump? Won't it get sucked in a pump or are there tricks to keep it out?

24/7 Lighting .

Start with 1/4 of your sump size. When it grows to 4/4 trim it back down to 1/4.

What ever lighting is cheap to replace. A flood light works.
It should grow more from nutrients than lights.

Monitor your pH first and see if you do have a swing.

If you do have a swing try and open the nanos lid at night and let some O2 in, that will keep your pH stable just the same.

If that does not work do the alternate cycle.
I would read the pH over a couple days/nights and see, we all can use this type of information.

I have mine on reverse of my display mh's. I'm really blasting it now with a 400w Iwasaki 6500K. I was using 6X40 NO 6500K bulbs which worked great but 3 shoplight fixtures hanging over my sump took up too much room.

BTW, for those who don't know and are reading this, it's a stock tank sump I'm not putting that much light over a typical under the stand sump.

I ran 4 48 inch no but got no growth so I fired up a 175 watt xm 10k MH and it grows like a weed dropped my trates 20 points.
