Lighting Dilemma

i honestly think you'd be happier down the road breaking down and buying a very good 250w setup. post your 175's up for sale, theres always SOMEBODY looking for that stuff. a 90 is a pretty deep tank, you need the best penetration you can get if you want to get even spread and enough light to grow everything your wanting

well as far as bulbs go, if you decide on single ends, go with Radiums, if your going double end, do Phoenix 14k. as far as reflectors, the lumenbrights are about twice as tall as the lumenmax elites, so they require a larger canopy, or a true pendant style, IE hanging from the ceiling. now, those $100 lumenbright youve found are just the reflector only. on the actual pendant, (which is the same cost as the lumenmax elite btw), you get the finished black housing, and the parts to hang it.

single ends will also be a couple inches longer fixture as well, so you have to take into account the actual mogul base hanging outside of the pendant itself, but is not really a problem if you are a bit handy making things fit and work. i like double ends for the fact that all the pendants have a UV shield built in them, which is great for splashing. if you get salt on it, wipe it off. with single ends, they dont come with the glass shield, thats an extra option and usually cost an extra 15 to 25 dollars. and if you get the pendant dirty, you have to take it apart to clean it.

of course, everybody likes their own setups, but i recomment 250w double end Pheonix in lumen max elite pendants. they are the lowest profile. for ballasts, i would definately go with coralvue's dimmable ballasts. easy way to control intensity and acclimate new corals.

i added a GLO T5 HO retro kit (that i had) to my setup with two 10,000K Coralife bulbs. here are my new readings:

2 175W MH + 2 T5HO Actinics: Under the bulbs (545), Top of tank (130), Middle of tank (100), Bottom of tank (75)

2 175W MH + 2 T5HO Actinics + 2 T5HO 10,000K: Under the bulbs (1200), Top of tank (245), middle of tank (130), Bottom of tank (100)

Still low readings but better and it was free since i already had the gear. Just had to buy two new bulbs.

i wouldnt waste any more money on your current setup. my daddy always told me "it doesnt matter how much perfume you put on it, its still just a turd". save every dollar and cent and upgrade

well, then i guess there's that..... I appreciate the response. I'm not willing to shell out $600+ bones right now so i'm just trying to find something that works. looks good with the 10,000K T5's.
