Lighting Fixture

I have a 40g breeder and I am looking into buying a new lighting fixture. It has a 10000k 50/50 bulb and a actinitc bulb. I want to upgrade to a MH/t5 fixture preferably with night LED's. I have read that lighting and protein skimmers are the two items you dont want to skimp on so I am asking for the advice of some experienced reef keepers on this one. I am hoping that if I get a 250w MH fixture that I will be able to keep most kinds of coral. I have been looking for used fixtures as decent ones seem to start around $500 and I would prefer not to spend that much right now. I have seen fixtures on ebay but anytime I see something on ebay for a significantly lower price it makes me skeptical. Also another consideration is I would prefer a fixture as opposed to a retrofit kit because I live in a rental house at school and cant drill the ceiling for a hanging light. If anyone could suggest a good 36" fixture that doesnt cost an arm and a leg that would be awesome. THanks!

Go Gauchos! The 250 MH will be more than enough light for your system; you may need to be careful on what you put at the top of your rockwork, as light sensitive corals may fade. I think that 250 watts is defiantly a better choice than 150 watts, it will give you future options.

Agreed to stick with 250watt. If your handy at all, you can buy ballasts and reflectors and build your own lighting system. If you have a 250watt MH with a good reflector (Lumenbright!) and individual reflectors for T-5's you will have a much higher output than anything you can buy as a single fixture.
