Lighting Help Please!

Ok so I am somewhat new to Zoa's

I recently got some beautiful Zoa's

a day after I put them in the tank some of them started to open up.

it is 2 weeks later now and none of them are opening up.

I have a current outer orbit light with 4 actinic and 2 MH (each MH is 150-watts)

Could they be in Light shock?

I have the MH on for 4 hours a day. The MH come on for 2 hours at 11 am then go off for one hour and them come back on for 2 hours. (I do it this way to keep the temp in my tank steady)

it is a 72 gallon tank. I add 8 drops of Iodine a week. is that too much?

All of the heads seem tightly closed now. Is there a way to tell if they are dead / burned? Is there a way to tell if they will come back?

Thank you for your advice.

First we need more info...What type of lighting were they under before, how deep were they in that tank and where are they in yours (top middle bottom). Second what are your parameters...You said you dose iodine but how do you know hom much, how often do you test? Also how stocked is your tank with corals and fish if you have alot of corals your iodine might be ok, if few corals iodine might be too much. Overall testing your levels will tell how much iodine is needed. More info can help us help you.

I am not 100% sure what type of lighting they were under prior to receiving them. I bought them from an online coral farmer.

I have a 72 Gallon boW front with a 20 gallon Sump/Fuge/Skimmer

The corrals are about halfway between the bottom and the top of the tank.

I use a 36" outer Orbit lighting fixture.

it has 4- T5 Actinic bulbs and 2- 150 watt MH

The T-5's are on approx 10 hours

The MH are on a total of 4 hours.

My PH is 8.4

My salinity flucuates from evap, I try to keep it around 1.023-1.024 though

I have around 150LBs of Live rock in my tank.

I have
1 maroon clown with Rose bubble tip anemone
1 Bullet Gobi
1 Mandarin
1 yellow tang
1 potters angel

no fish is larger then 4 inches.

I also add Phyto-plankton to the tank once every 3 days.

Is there a way to tell if the Zoa's are dead?
The seem tightly closed but to my untrained eye they do not look dead.

Also the rest of my Zoa's are doing fine.

I will try to add a pic soon.

Ok so here are a few pictures

**The 1st is a picture of the whole tank with just the actinic lights on

**The 2nd is closer shot of the closed up Zoa's (The healthy Zoa's you see were only added a few days ago)

**The 3rd & 4th Pics are with the Actinic lights and the MH lights on.

Before they closed up they were Hot pink. Very cool looking.

Does anyone know what this could be?

They have been closed for 3 days now.

Is there anything I should be doing to help them?

Are they dead?

Thank you very much for your help in advance!

What about other parameters? nitrate, ammonia, MG, Ca? I am not an expert in this field but just wondering, it never hurts to do a large water change. Also if something is irritating them you can try lightly scrubbing them with a brush of some sort. Maybe adjust your flow too, zoes like moderate indirect flow as well not direct flow. Other than that im at a loss. Perhaps another member can help, so in essence what im saying is BUMP.

ALso watch your tank closely are there any fish nipping at them, is there a draft causing temp flux? Try looking at them in the middle of the night when the lights are off are they still closed, try using a red light to see if any critters are pestering them? Just my 2cents

# 1 problem is your SG. It should be 1.026. Dosen't seem like much but i can tell you from first hand experiance it is. Bump it up.

# 2nd i would watch the angel for nipping. And don't say you never see it so it doesn't happen. Most likely it is.

What is the temp?
