i have 2 150W HQI halides and one of the transformers burt out (i moved all the corals to the side where the light is working) and i need to take it up to aqua-medic to get it fixed but they need it over night and i am wondering if my tank would be fine without light for 48 hours or would that jepridize the corals health ?????

I've done it before and saw no negative effects on the coral. However, you would probably want at least a small florescent light to prevent the fish from being stressed.

Do you run any other lights or just the MH? I don't see any reason why it would be that bad for the corals. Think of it this way a bad storm came in and blocks most of the sun ;) I would try to run some other light even if it's just natural sun from a window.

I still think you would be ok. I made a move from UT to CO with my corals (SPS) in bins for 4 days and all but 2 made it. I don't think it was the lights but temp that got them. I would not think twice about 48 hours and no light. but see what other think.

IME, with power outages, softies and lps should be fine without any light for 48 hrs. I would be more concerned about light shock when the Mh are added back to the system. Like the others have suggested I would try to add some kind of light to help reduce the amount of shock when the MH are back over the tank. Even with this I would still re-introduce the MH slowly.

yea, like a lamp or something near the tank, and my zoos open up like the photoperiod is on...they would be fine without that, too though
